How to make Crochet Blanket Flower + Video Tutorial

Crochet motifs are small, often square or circular, crochet patterns that can be joined together to make larger projects like blankets, scarves, or garments. Here’s a basic guide on how to make a simple granny square motif, which is one of the most popular types:

🧵 Materials:

  • Yarn (choose any weight, but worsted is good for beginners)
  • Matching crochet hook (check your yarn label)
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle (for weaving in ends)

Step 1: Make a Slip Knot and Chain 4

Step 2: Round 1

  • Chain 3 (counts as first double crochet – dc).
  • Work 2 dc into the ring, chain 2.
  • Repeat: 3 dc, ch 2 — do this 3 more times (total of 4 sets of 3 dc).
  • Slip stitch into the top of the beginning ch-3 to close the round.

Step 3: Round 2

  • Slip stitch into the next 2 stitches to reach the corner space (ch-2 space).
  • Chain 3 (counts as first dc), 2 dc into same corner, ch 2, 3 dc into same corner.
