Materials:

  • 400-500 yards of worsted weight yarn in your desired color
  • Size H-8 (5mm) crochet hook
  • Tapestry needle
  • Stitch marker (optional)

Gauge:

16 sts and 8 rows per 4 inches in double crochet

Pattern:

1. Body:

  • Turn and work 1 row of double crochet in each stitch.
  • Continue working in double crochet until the body reaches the desired length, ending with a row of double crochet.

2. Armholes:

  • Skip the first 16 stitches and work 20 double crochet.
  • Turn and chain 2, then skip 2 stitches and work 18 double crochet.
  • Turn and chain 2, then skip 2 stitches and work 16 double crochet.
  • Turn and chain 2, then skip 2 stitches and work 14 double crochet.
  • Turn and chain 2, then skip 2 stitches and work 12 double crochet.
  • Turn and chain 2, then skip 2 stitches and work 10 double crochet.
  • Turn and chain 2, then skip 2 stitches and work 8 double crochet.
  • Turn and chain 2, then skip 2 stitches and work 6 double crochet.
  • Turn and chain 2, then skip 2 stitches and work 4 double crochet.
  • Turn and chain 2, then skip 2 stitches and work 2 double crochet.
  • Tie off.

3. Repeat Step 2 for the other armhole.

4. Skirt:

  • Attach yarn at the side of the body, chain 2, and work double crochet around the body and up the armholes, making sure to work 2 double crochet in each corner stitch.Opens in a new windowmoonbeamstitches.comAttach yarn at the side of the body, chain 2, and work double crochet
  • Continue working in double crochet until the skirt reaches the desired length, ending with a row of double crochet.

5. Straps:

  • Chain 40.
  • Turn and work double crochet in each stitch.
  • Continue working in double crochet until the strap reaches the desired length.
  • Tie off.

6. Repeat Step 5 for the other strap.

7. Finishing:

  • Weave in all ends.
  • Sew straps to the top of the bodice, on either side of the armholes.

  • You can adjust the length of the dress, armholes, and skirt to fit the baby.
  • You can use different stitch patterns for the body and skirt.
