MODERN CROCHET Rug | STEP BY STEP

Materials:

  • Yarn in at least three colors of your choice. I used worsted weight yarn in the following colors:
    • Light green or lime green for the leaves
    • Brown for the stem
    • Your choice of colors for the petals – I used pink, orange, and yellow
  • Crochet hook suitable for your yarn weight (I used a 5.5mm hook)
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors

Instructions:

1. Start with the center of the flower. Make a magic ring in your chosen petal color. Work 8 double crochets (dc) into the ring, close the ring with a slip stitch (sl st).

2. Round 2: Chain 2 (counts as dc), work 1 dc in each dc around, close with a sl st.

3. Round 3: Chain 2, work 2 dc in each dc around, close with a sl st.

4. Rounds 4-6: Repeat round 3. At the end of round 6, switch to your next petal color.

5. Rounds 7-9: Repeat rounds 2-3, switching to your final petal color at the end of round 9.

6. Leave a long tail of yarn and fasten off. Weave the tail through the back loops of stitches around the base of the flower to close up the hole.

7. Start the leaves. Make a magic ring in your chosen leaf color. Work 6 dc into the ring, close with a sl st.

8. Round 2: Chain 2, work 2 dc in each dc around, close with a sl st.

9. Round 3: Chain 1, work a sc in each stitch around, close with a sl st.

10. Repeat rounds 8-9, making leaves in different sizes to add dimension to your flower. Fasten off and weave in ends.

11. Start the stem. Make a chain of 7 in your chosen stem color.

12. Turn your chain and work a sc in each chain, close with a sl st. Repeat rows 11-12 until the stem is the desired length. Fasten off and weave in ends.

13. Sew the leaves and stem onto the back of the flower. You can also crochet some tendrils coming off the stem if you like.

14. Make as many flowers as you need for your rug. Arrange the flowers on a non-slip surface and sew them together. You can also crochet a border around the rug if you like.

Tips:

  • Use different shades of the same color for the petals to add depth and dimension.
  • Experiment with different leaf shapes and sizes.
  • You can also add other embellishments to your flowers, such as beads or buttons.

With a little creativity, you can crochet a beautiful and unique granny rug flor that will add a touch of cheer to any room.
