CROCHET ELASTIC STITCH SLIPPERS FOR ADULTS | Video tutorial

Crocheting your own slippers is a wonderful way to create comfy, personalized footwear that’s both practical and stylish. This pattern guides you through making stitch slippers for adults, perfect for keeping your feet warm and pampered indoors.

Skill Level: Beginner-friendly

Materials:

  • Worsted weight yarn in your desired color (200-300 yards)
  • Crochet hook size appropriate for your yarn (recommended: H/8 – 5.00mm)
  • Yarn needle
  • Stitch marker (optional)
  • Scissors
  • Measuring tape

Gauge:

16 stitches and 18 rows in single crochet stitch = 4 inches x 4 inches

Sizing:

This pattern is adaptable to fit most adult foot sizes. You can adjust the chain count at the beginning and the number of rows worked to achieve the desired fit. Use the measurements below as a guide and adjust as needed:

  • Small/Medium: 40 chains (9 inch foot length)
  • Medium/Large: 44 chains (9.5 inch foot length)
  • Large/X-Large: 48 chains (10 inch foot length)

Instructions:

1. Base:

  • Chain the desired number of stitches based on your size.
  • Single crochet (sc) in each chain across.
  • Turn, chain 2 (turning chain), sc in each stitch across.
  • Continue working rows of sc, turning at the end of each row, until the work measures approximately 5 inches wide.

2. Heel:

  • Mark the first 10 stitches on one side of the work with a stitch marker (optional). These will be your heel stitches.
  • Continue working sc across until you reach the marked stitches.
  • Sc in the first marked stitch, chain 2, turn.
  • Sc in each stitch across the marked stitches, chain 2, turn.
  • Decrease 1 stitch at each end of the row by working a sc together through the back loops of the last two stitches.
  • Continue working rows of sc across the marked stitches, decreasing 1 stitch at each end until you have only 4 stitches remaining.
  • Slip stitch these 4 stitches together.

3. Foot:

  • With the right side of the work facing you, sc in the next stitch and skip the stitch next to the heel flap.
  • Continue working sc across the remaining stitches of the base, skipping the stitch next to the heel flap on each row.
  • Work across the heel flap, sc in each stitch.
  • Continue working rows of sc around the entire foot, increasing 1 stitch at each end of the heel flap until you have the same number of stitches as you started with at the base.
  • Work additional rows of sc around the entire foot until the length reaches your desired foot length (measure from the heel to the big toe).

4. Toe:

  • Work a few rows of sc, decreasing 1 stitch at each end of every other row until you have 6 stitches remaining.
  • Slip stitch these 6 stitches together to close the toe.

5. Finishing:

  • Weave in any loose ends.
  • You can add an optional embellishment like a pom-pom or a crocheted flower to the top of the slipper.

Tips:

  • Use a yarn suitable for slippers, such as acrylic or wool blend.
  • Change yarn colors for a striped or colorblocked effect.
  • Add a sole made from fabric or shelf liner for extra grip.
  • Make a pair for a loved one as a thoughtful homemade gift.

Customization:

Feel free to customize this pattern to your liking! Here are some ideas:

  • Use different stitch patterns for the base and/or toe.
  • Add a ribbed cuff for a snug fit.
