Crochet ribbon lace

Crochet ribbon lace adds a touch of elegance and whimsy to any project, from home decor to fashion accessories. It’s surprisingly versatile and easier than you might think! In this blog post, we’ll guide you through crocheting a beautiful ribbon lace with a simple repeat pattern.

Materials:

  • Crochet hook: Size depends on the desired finished width of your lace. A smaller hook creates a more delicate lace.
  • Yarn: Choose a smooth, lightweight yarn for best results. Cotton or cotton blend works well.
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle (optional)

Gauge:

Gauge isn’t crucial for this project, but if you want consistency, make a small swatch and measure the width of your lace after a few rows.

Instructions:

Chain 3, slip stitch into the first chain to form a ring.

Row 1: Ch 2, 2 dc (double crochet) in the ring, ch 2, 2 dc in the ring. Turn your work (4 dc total).

Row 2: Ch 2, skip the first dc, dc in the ch-2 space, 2 dc in the next dc, ch 2, dc in the ch-2 space, 2 dc in the last dc. Turn your work (8 dc total).

Row 3: Ch 2, skip 2 dc, dc in the next ch-2 space, 2 dc in the next dc, ch 2, dc in the next ch-2 space. Repeat from * to * until the end of the row, skipping 2 dc before the last group of 2 dc. Turn your work.

Continue repeating Row 3, increasing by 2 dc every row. The pattern creates a chain of open spaces between the double crochets, forming the delicate lace design.

Tips:

  • To change the width of your lace, adjust the starting number of double crochets in the ring (Row 1).
  • You can experiment with different stitch combinations for variations. For example, substitute chain spaces with picots for a fancier touch.
  • Use a contrasting color yarn for the last few rows to create a defined edge.
  • Block your finished lace by gently pinning it out to shape and letting it dry flat. This helps the stitches lay evenly and defines the lace pattern.
  • Use your beautiful ribbon lace to embellish clothing, blankets, curtains, gift wrapping, or any project that needs a touch of charm!
