Beautiful crochet jacket / Step-by-step tutorial course

Materials:

  • 4 skeins of worsted weight yarn in your desired color
  • 5.5mm crochet hook
  • Stitch markers
  • Tapestry needle
  • Sewing needle and thread

Gauge:

16 stitches and 8 rows in hdc = 4 inches

Finished Size:

Small/Medium (Large/X-Large)

Pattern:

Back:

  1. Chain 88 (100) stitches.
  2. Hdc in the second chain from the hook and in each chain across. Turn.
  3. Chain 2, hdc in each stitch across. Turn.
  4. Repeat rows 2 and 3 until the piece measures 12 (14) inches from the starting chain.
  5. Shape the armholes:
    • Small/Medium: Skip the first 14 stitches, hdc in the next 54 stitches, skip the next 14 stitches, hdc in the last 16 stitches. Turn.
    • Large/X-Large: Skip the first 16 stitches, hdc in the next 60 stitches, skip the next 16 stitches, hdc in the last 20 stitches. Turn.
  6. Chain 2, hdc in each stitch across, working across the skipped stitches as if they were worked in. Turn.
  7. Repeat rows 5 and 6 until the armholes measure 7 (8) inches from the shaping row.
  8. Neckline:
    • Small/Medium: Skip the first 14 stitches, hdc in the next 20 stitches, chain 2, skip the next 20 stitches, hdc in the next 24 stitches. Turn.
    • Large/X-Large: Skip the first 16 stitches, hdc in the next 24 stitches, chain 2, skip the next 24 stitches, hdc in the next 28 stitches. Turn.
  9. Chain 2, hdc in each stitch across, working across the skipped stitches and chain spaces as if they were worked in. Turn.
  10. Repeat row 9 until the neckline measures 8 (9) inches from the shaping row.
  11. Shoulder shaping:
    • Small/Medium: Skip the first 14 stitches, hdc in the next 12 stitches, skip the next 2 stitches, hdc in the next 20 stitches, slip stitch in the next 2 stitches. Turn.
    • Large/X-Large: Skip the first 16 stitches, hdc in the next 14 stitches, skip the next 2 stitches, hdc in the next 24 stitches, slip stitch in the next 2 stitches. Turn.
  12. Chain 2, hdc in each stitch across, working across the skipped stitches and slip stitches as if they were worked in. Turn.
  13. Repeat rows 11 and 12 until the shoulder straps measure 5 inches from the shaping row.
  14. Tie off.

Front:

  1. Work the same as the back, but reverse the shaping for the neckline and shoulders.

Sleeves:

  1. Chain 40 (44) stitches.
  2. Hdc in the second chain from the hook and in each chain across. Turn.
  3. Chain 2, hdc in each stitch across. Turn.
  4. Repeat rows 2 and 3 until the piece measures 6 (7) inches from the starting chain.
  5. Increase: chain 2, hdc in the next stitch, 2 hdc in the next stitch. Repeat across. Turn.
  6. Hdc in each stitch across, working into both loops of the increased stitches. Turn.
  7. Repeat rows 5 and 6 until the piece measures 14 (16) inches from the starting chain, or to desired length.
  8. Tie off.

Assembly:

  1. Sew the shoulder seams together.
  2. Sew the sleeves to the armholes, matching the seams.
  3. Sew the side seams from the bottom of the sleeves to the hem.
  4. Crochet or sew a border around the neckline and front edges, if desired.

Finishing:

  1. Weave in all ends.
